Chesterfield Road & Railway Station

Chesterfield Road, Ainsdale Station and the Liverpool - Southport Railway (Merseyrail Northern Line). The railway was built in 1848 by the Liverpool, Crosby and Southport Railway Company. The picture is taken from the Kenilworth Road bridge - the highest point in Ainsdale, completed in 1974.

Crossing Barriers

Ainsdale Crossing (1997). The cameras and automated crossing control (from a control room in Sandhills, Liverpool) replaced the Signal Box in 1994. The crossing barriers replaced the old gates in 1980.

Bus & Shops

Ainsdale Village and a Number 8 bus (1997).

St Johns Church

St. John's Church (1997). The Anglican Church (Church of England) was built between 1886 and 1888. There was once talk of replacing it with a bigger church but the First World War intervened and the project was never started. Originally there was a bell tower on the east end of the nave roof but this had to be removed when it became unsafe.

St John's School

St John's Church and Primary School (1997). The school was opened in 1894. It is still partly funded by the Church.
